Pierre Bottero's books have had a huge impact on my life, and they can be a great source of inspiration, both for writing and drawing. Here, I wanted to visually interpret a scene in his book "L'Autre: La Huitième Porte", where the protagonist Elio, a nine year old, confronts a black panther--could it be his shapeshifting, gone mother?

"L'Autre: Elio - Maman...?" process shots.
This came as part of a school project in 2013, where every piece was self-initiated. It depicts a reader sitting on high rocks, looking towards a horizon/landscape forming through the quotes of the book she is reading. She sees "beyond the words"; her imagination is forming itself in front of her.
Since this piece was inspired by the book series "La Quête d'Ewilan", "Les Mondes d'Ewilan" and "Le Pacte des Marchombres" by Pierre Bottero, it uses quotes from these books and represents "Les frontières de glace", based off their designs on the book cover "La Quête d'Ewilan: Les Frontières de Glace", which was illustrated by Jean-Louis Thouard in the Rageot edition.
