"Zoo Hero"
Environment, Leaderboards, & Platforms Art
Showcasing the environment, leaderboards, & platform artworks I created in the first half of 2016 for  "Zoo Hero" (trailer below), a game created for the module "Integrated Project 1" (IP1) in my Computer Games course at Glasgow Caledonian University. Integrated Project is a module taking place the first three years of our course, where designers, programmers, and artists are put together in small groups with the task to create a game in 12 weeks.
The brief for IP1 was to create a family-friendly game for a hypothetical zoo, represent the animals and the zoo in a positive light, be based on one or more classic arcade games in a 'refreshed' way, and deployable on mobile devices. We thus created an endless runner 2D platformer where the player is a happy animal (changing depending on the level/world being played) running around for health & fun in large enclosures, catching coins and power-ups, trying to get a high-score.
My tasks included being the environment & platform artist, creating background screens that could be parallaxed on various levels (front, middle, back) to create a feeling of movement and depth for each world, as well as platform assets for random generation, and also helped for the store screen and the leaderboards. I also created the logo & banner for our team, which we named Team Credible, for our social media pages, which we updated during the project.
Trailer created by S. Sina, using artwork by M. McMenemy (characters, animations, main UI), J. Choychoo (obstacle assets, power-ups, 3D models), and M. Jeantet. This was made with the final prototype for IP1; the mechanics of the game were altered and additional worlds were mocked up afterwards, during the summer.

Zoo Hero's Platforms (Assets)
Since River Rush was intended as a "tap to swim up" in a "Flappy Bird" style, the "platforms" for the level were in this case rock obstacles that could be placed at the bottom of the screen. They were also made into "top" obstacles with matching lighting; those were to be used as obstacles placed at the top.
Although the creation of "Desert Dunes" was ultimately aborted, the platforms had been created, so I wanted to show them :).

Monkey character by M. McMenemy.
Platypus character by M. McMenemy.
All these artworks & assets were created in Adobe Photoshop, between January and July 2016, as part of Integrated Project 1, in year 1 of the course BSc (Hons) Computer Games (Art & Animation) at Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland.
